If you have a sump pit with a pump, there will be pipes connecting thru the side wall of the pit at the footing grade, not corresponding to a floor drain.
There are three ways water gets into your basement.
1. Above ground penetration occurs when wind driven rain penetrates thru masonry mortar joints. Or when existing ground grade is higher than the foundation grade, i.e., concrete slabs like your driveway are poured higher than your foundation grade. Or when there are open space around the trim of doors and windows - meaning caulking is old, missing or not properly applied.
2. Imperfections in the foundation wall. These are most commonly caused by cracks in wall, tie rods, pipe intrusions, lack of a protective coating on the outside, or other construction related flaws.
3. Hydrostatic pressure. This is most easily understood as the force that groundwater exerts against the walls and floor of the foundation. Seepage can occur due to a lack of drain tile and sump pump or due to a drain tile failure or insufficient pumping capacity.

In some cases it can be done outside, however, in order to stop the water from coming into your house, you must find the source of the water. That requires further investigation. by looking at all possible sources inside and outside the home.
